OS agent Unix/Linux upgrade

Note: Always upgrade at first the LPAR2RRD server, then the OS agents.

Upgrade from v4.x

  • Take the agent from one of these two sources:
    • OS agent release notes page where is always the last version
    • LPAR2RRD distribution comes with the agent rpm in this dir: /home/lpar2rrd/lpar2rrd/agent

  • Upgrade all your LPARs:
rpm -Uvh lpar2rrd-agent-4.00-0.aix5.1.ppc.rpm # for any AIX higher than AIX 5.1
rpm -Uvh lpar2rrd-agent-4.00-0.Linux.noarch.rpm # for any Linux (X86 or on Power)

Upgrade from v1.x (initial OS agent version) to 4.X

  • Upgrade at first LPAR2RRD server part

  • Start the daemon (it starts automatically at the start of the first run: ./load.sh)

  • There has got changed the data store format of the OS agent data therefore the daemon has to at first convert old data into the new format
It might take couple of hours (depends on how many LPARs you have got)

  • To avoid data lose wait until that process finishes
Either wait half of day (to be safe) or monitor :
    tail -f /home/lpar2rrd/lpar2rrd/logs/daemon.out

Once there is nothing changed in the log for last 20 minutes then go ahead with the next step

  • Take the agent from /home/lpar2rrd/lpar2rrd/agent and upgrade it under root on all your LPARs:
rpm -Uvh lpar2rrd-agent-4.00-0.aix5.1.ppc.rpm # for any AIX higher than AIX 5.1
rpm -Uvh lpar2rrd-agent-4.00-0.Linux.noarch.rpm # for any Linux on Power
